These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Tortie mobile application ("App") operated by Tortie ("we", "our", "us"). By using the App, you agree to these Terms.

1. Service Description

Tortie is a mobile application that helps couples track shared expenses, split costs, and settle balances. The App is designed for use by two partners who wish to manage their shared financial life transparently.

2. Account Responsibilities

When you create a Tortie account, you agree to:

• Provide accurate and complete information during registration
• Keep your login credentials secure and not share them with others
• Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access to your account
• Be responsible for all activity that occurs under your account

3. Subscription Terms

Tortie offers a free trial and paid subscription plans:

• Free trial: 30 days of full access at no charge, no credit card required
• Paid plans: Weekly, monthly, or annual subscriptions billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store
• Subscriptions are per couple (team), not per individual user
• Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
• You can cancel your subscription at any time through your device's App Store or Google Play settings
• Refunds are handled according to Apple's and Google's refund policies

After your trial or subscription ends, your account becomes read-only. You can still view your expense history but cannot add new expenses until you subscribe.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the App for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
• Attempt to access another user's account without permission
• Interfere with or disrupt the App's infrastructure
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
• Use the App to harass, abuse, or harm another person
• Upload malicious content or attempt to exploit vulnerabilities

5. Intellectual Property

The Tortie name, logo, design, and all related content are owned by us and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the App without our written permission.

6. Limitation of Liability

Tortie is a tracking tool, not a financial advisor. We are not responsible for:

• Financial decisions made based on information displayed in the App
• Disputes between partners about expenses or balances
• Data loss caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control
• Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the App

Our total liability for any claim related to the App shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

7. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or if we reasonably believe your use of the App poses a risk to other users or our infrastructure. You may delete your account at any time from the App settings.

8. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the App or by email. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

9. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of France. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Paris, France.
